Inti Raymi is considered the most important of the four sacred festivals (Raymis) celebrated by indigenous Andean cultures. It is held in mid June marking the longest day of the year, when the sun traces it’s longest path through the sky.
For my elders of Ecuador this is a very important time to gather and give thanks to the harvest of the year and to the light of the sun coming back to the land.
We celebrate this day with a ceremony of Hape medicine to ground and stabilize our energies and then with the help of the Sacred Cacao Medicine we open our hearts towards the possibility of reconnecting with our highest purpose and with all our relations.
The evening will start with smudging of each participant and a blessing of the land. A circle of hapé medicine will start while ceremony songs are sung.
Hape (pronounced ha-pe), also known as hapeh or rapé, is a sacred tobacco plant used by indigenous healers in the Amazon rainforest for thousands of years.
In recent years, it has gained popularity among Westerners as a powerful shamanic medicine for healing and spiritual purposes. Hape decalcifies the third eye and scans the body for blockages and energetic misalignment. Opens the heart, grounding, heightening the awareness and creating clarity, it softens the ego and allows to listen to the higher self.
Many people feel a solid connection to the earth and their inner wisdom. Hape is also known to purify and cleanse and can be used to clear the sinuses and lungs. Hapé enters your left nostril, a nod to the cycle of life and death. Then, it travels to the right nostril, symbolizing rebirth, a cosmic do-over.
The strongest feeling comes on about three minutes after application.
hape is not a psychoactive substance.
The circle permits the energy to be fluid, we will sit in community and share songs and stories. AFTER THE HAPE AND ITS PROPER INTEGRATION WE WILL PRAY TO THE CACAO MEDICINE FOR BLESSINGS ON THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR, FOR US AND ALL OUR RELATIONS.
We finish the evening closing the ceremony with the call to the seven directions and fresh Agua Florida.
